Unalome Chronicles: Hunter Daily, Singer-Songwriter & Actor

Growing up in the Hollywood Hills surrounded by friends and family in the entertainment industry, it's no surprise Hunter turned out to be a talented Singer-Songwriter and Actor herself. Let's get to know her better...

You're LA-made, born to sing and act!
I love the magic of acting and singing. Art is very powerful – it’s self-expression and it brings people together. I love that art makes people feel and if I can create something that does that for someone, that’s the greatest gift that I could give. I fell in love with acting when I was about 13. I was a really shy little girl, but school plays and acting class brought me out of my shell and I’ve been pursuing it ever since. Acting can definitely be a tough industry, but I’m truly grateful for it – it’s been a creative outlet for me and every character that I've played has helped me learn more about myself. I recently shot a horror film called Sazarac in Oregon, and a few other short films in LA, one with Polar Pictures. I have some fun projects lined up for the future and I’m also writing some scripts of my own.

Music has also always been a big part of my life because my mom (Elizabeth Daly) and sister (Tyson Salomon) are both in the music industry. I’ve always loved music, but it wasn't something I felt confident enough about to pursue as a career until recently. When I first started, I really didn't know what I was doing, but I knew in my gut that it was something I needed to try. So, without much thought, I wrote, recorded and put out a few singles with a team of producers. It felt very rushed, and immediately after, I knew it wasn't what I wanted my music to sound like. It needed to be something that I was proud of, something that would feel like me and I realized that the only way to achieve this would be to take my time with it, learn more about myself, and learn more about music as an art. So, I went to NYU and studied in their Recorded Music program at Tisch where I found a really great mentor who taught me a lot about songwriting and storytelling. I worked hard learning to play the piano and the guitar, but never shared much of what I had been working on until this year. Most of the inspiration for the songs I write come from my personal life experiences and any time an idea comes my way, I write it down or make a voice memo on my phone. I usually start with some chords I like, a melody or concept, and I go from there. A lot of times, my songs are a capsulation of a feeling I've felt in a specific moment in time. Inspiration can really come from anywhere though, and every song is different. A recent song I wrote was inspired by the character Penny Lane from the movie Almost Famous.

I love acting and music because I feel the most connected to myself when I’m taking risks, creating and performing. I recently performed my first and second live shows here in LA that went really well! I have many more live shows to come and plan on releasing an Album and an EP very soon. My next live show is November 1st at Peppermint Club in West Hollywood. One day, I’d love to do a film like La La Land or Moulin Rouge!, which would allow me to bring my two passions of music and acting together.

Maya Angelou said, “success is liking yourself, liking what you do, and liking how you do it,” and I agree! Pursuing careers in acting and music can be a grind, so to keep focused and motivated I love to meditate, journal, work out, and I’m constantly finding new things to get excited about and to be inspired by. I make a big effort to do things that make me happy, weather it’s jamming with friends or jumping in the water at the beach. Sometimes I can overwork myself, so maintaining a balance between life and work makes all the difference.

You have so many jeans!
I love jeans :) Great jeans can make me feel like a million bucks. And I’m really into red at the moment – I have this red denim jacket from Brandy Melville  that really makes me feel like me.
